successes go overlooked. That's why I couldn't wait to share my joy in attending

Philanthropy Spotlight

Inspired Teaching is fortunate to partner with organizations such as The Clark Charitable
Foundation which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged
families, individuals, and children in the Washington, DC metropolitan region through
investments in education, community and social services, healthcare, and medical
research.

Education is an important focus of the Foundation's work because "we know that it
is the key to enabling children in the DC region to have the future that they deserve,"
according to Foundation President Courtney Clark Pastrick.

Clark Pastrick added that the Foundation has invested in Inspired Teaching's work
in training effective teachers since 2009 "because effective teachers are the most
important school-based factor in a student's academic success. Center for Inspired
Teaching provides teachers with the skills and innovation they need to inspire and
motivate our next generation of leaders, and we are proud to partner in this important
work."

Inspired Teaching in Action

Institute Retreat: Designed and Led by Teachers

"Teacher leader" is a popular term that education experts like to use, but what
does it really mean? At Inspired Teaching, enlisting the support of current and
former program participants to lead our trainings is integral to our philosophy
and success. A good example is our recent mid-year retreat for participants in our
Inspired Teaching Institute [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0018pIoqh5CVTEb-32AWV-nbtVFZU5t6YjVEgKMo7I-gDl00qI1V7oUG6g10JBqy0X6n6QCDVEErRR_x2857yDnQ-UCGlbCm3t938590fEiQBtKVt3suHzi2i3NgB9hhtxPRhgIqVpczez2-gmBDgRHtXnEuWoIeIG84Z_-hNZ1o0INaM0uRa0s5g==].
Teachers not only shaped the retreat agenda by requesting sessions that aligned
with their current needs, but they also conducted the sessions. It was an amazing
professional learning community experience.

Participants also witnessed elements of Inspired Teaching's Instructional Model

where the retreat was held. Examples of student ownership and student agency were
on display throughout the building; student desks were arranged to facilitate collaboration,
problem solving, and engaged learning; and bulletin boards displayed student work
focused on Intellect, Inquiry, Imagination, and Integrity (the 4 I's). After the
tour, participants shared how they would adapt what they observed to their own
classrooms.

Instead of being fast-tracked into the teaching profession, our Fellows are better
prepared for the challenges of teaching in an urban, high-poverty classroom.

Inspired Teachers are committed to being changemakers in their classrooms and beyond.
Of all program alumni, 93 percent are still working in the field of education, with
75 percent working in DC public and charter schools.

True shifts in the educational landscape will only happen with and by teachers.
