<p>Dear parents of Clarkson math students,</p>
<p>Last week students completed a cumulative test, covering Units 1-3 (our main units after a start of the year review). After looking over the tests, it was clear that some time was needed to review the correct answers. On Thursday & Friday of last week, the classes were split into groups of 3-4 students, and they went through the test together. Each student was assigned 3-5 questions on the test to explain to the rest of the group (questions were, with only 2 minor exceptions, assigned to students who had answered the accurately on the test). The students were instructed to clearly show all of their work as they went through the test as a group, and each student submitted individual “corrections” that resulted from this groupwork process.</p>
<p>Today students will be bringing home a packet for you to sign that includes their original test, attached to the packet of corrections. On the front page of the packet you will see a score out of 40 (the original test score) and a score out of 20 (the result of the groupwork process). Both scores have been entered into the math gradebook as part of our review unit.</p>
<p>Today we began our unit on ratios and proportions, which will include a Scale Model Project as the main assessment. You can find information about this project on our class Haiku page. Students submitted their preliminary topic proposals (the object they plan to scale) in class today. This is a fun project and I hope you will enjoy seeing work on this project at home!</p>
