And asked if it were a problem that Hunter Biden would be on the payroll of this company, Smith responded: "Any member of a [company] board of directors receives compensation from the company for their participation on the board of directors -- that's true of any corporation, anywhere in the world."

Hunter Biden and his uncle Biden's business association with Texas financier R. Allen Standford who was later convicted of perpetrating a $7 billion Ponzi scheme has been criticized, but Smith explained and The Wall Street Journal reported, the fund of funds the Biden’s marketed through an agreement with Stanford was not itself a Ponzi scheme and neither Hunter Biden nor his uncle had any correspondence with Stanford who is serving 110 year prison sentence for his crimes.
