>Many of you have asked me to update you following Jennifer's operation >today. I'm pleased it was a success and she's now home resting >comfortably. She has a 3-5 week recovery and then will be back out there >on the tennis court and at exercise class, I'm certain. Jennifer >approached today's procedure with the same grace and positive energy she >has for the past year since learning of her breast cancer. She has such >a joyful attitude. She has been an inspiration to many, including me, >and we're thankful to have this now behind us and able to move on from >this disease. They say every dark cloud has a silver lining. In our >case, we've had many silver linings. First and foremost, Jennifer is >cancer-free and won't need to worry about this again. That's a tremendous >relief. And if it's possible to fall even more in love with the person >you've loved for more than 30 years, this chapter has brought us even >closer and caused that for the two of us. Unfortunately for those of you >who have had the misfortune to be around us this past year, we recognize >at times we're like high school sweethearts, and we apologize profusely >for what may be perceived as sickening displays of affection! Also, we >have certainly spent the past year better understanding what's important >(like family and friends) and what's not (like material things and >trivial frustrations). And we are recommitted to the things that give us >most pleasure outside of being with family and friends in my case my >work at YUM, several of the Boards I am privileged to serve on including >Kindred, Thornton's, Muhammad Ali Center and Preservation Trust, and in >Jennifer's case, Actor's Theater and Sheriff's Meadow Foundation. And of >course all the fun activities we enjoy throughout the year tennis, >golf, skiing, hiking, biking, sailing, kayaking (and Jennifer's regular >workouts!). Lastly, we are even more determined to serve those less >fortunate than ourselves. There isn't a day that goes by that one of us >doesn't comment to the other about just how fortunate we are, and what a >wonderful life we have. We are very grateful and take nothing for >granted. We're especially grateful to all of you who have expressed such >concern and compassion this past year. Now that she's had today's >operation, this will serve as the final update on her progress.
