Regarding “How to talk to Iran” (Views, Jan. 5) by Seyed Hossein Mousavian and Mohammad Ali Shabani: Time and time again U.S. efforts to open relations with Iran have floundered because of missed opportunities, bombast and intransigence on both sides. This estrangement continues to fester, year in year out, fueled by deep distrust. The authors’ formula for engagement with Tehran offers the understanding necessary to end this impasse.
