> Kaci Hickox, the so-called “Ebola nurse” who was quarantined last fall by Chris Christie upon returning to New Jersey from Africa, tore into the Republican governor for what she called his “ill-informed” remarks on vaccines.
>
> In a segment on MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes,” Hickox said, “this is a good example of Governor Christie making some very ill-informed statements. We heard it a lot during the Ebola discussion, and now it seems to have happened again.”
>
> Christie drew fire Monday for saying that parents should have a “measure of choice” as to whether or not their children receive vaccines. He walked back his comments later in the day, issuing a statement saying that “vaccines are an important public health protection” and that his previous remarks were simply “calling for balance in which [vaccines] government should mandate.”
>
> “We know that vaccines are safe and we know that vaccines save lives,” Hickox told host Hayes, speaking about a measles outbreak she worked on in Africa. “We have to protect our most vulnerable populations.”
>
> Last October, Christie issued a policy that placed Hickox in an isolation tent after exhibiting an elevated temperature upon returning to New Jersey’s Newark airport. Hickox, who had worked with Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, tested negative for the virus, but was kept in the tent for four days before being released.
>
> Doctors said that Hickox’s quarantine was unnecessary, as Ebola patients can only spread the disease while symptomatic.
>
> On Monday, Hickox said that Christie’s vaccine comments should raise serious questions about his leadership.
>
> “I think the unfortunate thing or the scary thing is that I want a leader who consults experts and thinks about all of the different sides to an issue before making statements and policies that are unfounded in science,” she said.
