1. Programming Update: This week we held 6 NetSmartz trainings across Delaware and served 429 kids.

On Tuesday, Josh had a call with National Center for Missing & Exploited Children staff about the 10/20 Law Enforcement Conference in Wilmington. The date is set and the breakout sessions have been approved. We will begin advertising the conference in the next few weeks and will begin to find additional funding/underwriting.

2. Growth Update: On Tuesday, Josh and Patty went to DC to met with the Program Director of the Greater Washington Boys & Girls Clubs. We reviewed with her the programs the Foundation offers, and discussed the work we did with BGC Delaware. She’s presenting a few proposals to her ED and Board - either Safe To Compete (the program we ran at BGC Delaware) or the Shield of Protection Initiative.

On Wednesday, Patty and Eric Patton (NetSmartz intern), met with the leadership of the Delaware Police Athletic League. The DE PAL has five locations in New Castle County, and would like to be a part of our initial wave of Shield of Protection Partners. They’re also interested in having us provide weekly cyber bullying and internet safety workshops as part of their after school program. BBF staff is reviewing their current curriculum, and will work with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s NetSmartz suite of programs to create more content to fill 10 weeks of programming.

On Wednesday, Josh traveled to Doylestown, PA for a YMCA partner and funder event to network and discuss the work the BBF is doing with the Y and (hopefully) Doylestown Hospital. I had a good conversation with the Y’s ED, as well as our primary funder in Bucks County (Joe Cowhey). I also spoke with former Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick. Rep. Fitzpatrick had colon cancer a few years ago, went in to remission, but now is battling brain cancer. He continues to be a strong voice for the BBF in his old district.

3. Governance Update: On Thursday the BBF had a board meeting. We had great turn out, addressed a number of governance issues and had a healthy discussion about the future of the BBF. We established a sub-committee to explore the acquisition of Darkness to Light.

4. Development Update: This week, the Vice President made a call to his friend Joe Kiani about supporting the BBF. Joe pledged $500,000 over the next five years. Patty and Josh followed up with Joe, and we look forward to working with him in the future.

On Friday, Patty and Josh met with the leadership of Ally Federal Credit Union in Wilmington (they are the credit union for the state Kids Department and for the Health and Human Services Department). They will be selling $5 chances for a Philadelphia Eagles Prize Pack, including 4 tickets to a game and signed memorabilia. All funds raised will be donated to the BBF. The raffle will run from August 1 - Sept 29. They expect to raise about $3,000 for the BBF. More importantly, the branch manager is a monthly recurring BBF donor, and she would like the BBF to be the state wide charity partner of all of DE’s credit unions. Currently, the state wide charity partner is the Children’s Miracle Network, which actually doesn’t have a Delaware chapter. More to come on this potential partnership after the pilot fundraiser ends in September.
