Chris Christie has seen his poll numbers plummet in recent months, even among the Republican voters who once consistently supported him. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio would lose his home state to Hillary Clinton if the election were held today. In Louisiana, a late-September poll showed more voters would rather have convicted felon and former Gov. Edwin Edwards back in office than Republican incumbent Bobby Jindal, who's now moving toward a national run. And last month, Democrat Martin O'Malley departed the Maryland governorship with record-low approval ratings. His replacement, Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, notched a stunning upset in the blue state by connecting his opponent to O'Malley." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753e196330cfa03b1e0d607d2465102ad31e1f21ce0dbb0878f http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753e196330cfa03b1e0d607d2465102ad31e1f21ce0dbb0878f GRANITE STATE UPDATE - UNH poll gives Clinton huge lead in Dem primary: Hillary Clinton would cruise to a New Hampshire primary win if the election were held today, according to a new WMUR/University of New Hampshire poll. Clinton would win 58 percent support in a field that includes Sen. Elizabeth Warren (14 percent), Vice President Joe Biden (8 percent), Sen. Bernie Sanders (6 percent), Andrew Cuomo (2 percent), Jim Webb (1 percent) and Martin O'Malley (1 percent). The live telephone poll of 297 likely voters, conducted between Jan. 22-Feb. 3 carries a 5.7-percentage-point margin of error. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753d929dd6b8e3ded5575419bfdc64b7294f933317c4bd8a492 http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753d929dd6b8e3ded5575419bfdc64b7294f933317c4bd8a492 - GOP field still in flux: Republicans are still in flux. After removing Romney from the field, a plurality of voters (17 percent) preferred former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (12 percent) was statistically even, followed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (9 percent), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (8 percent), Ben Carson (5 percent) and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (4 percent). The live telephone poll of 348 likely GOP primary voters, conducted from Jan. 22-Feb. 3, carries a 5.3-percentage-point margin of error. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e17532a1f4b46500d6e6d148bf103dde2d532a9e024467827a095 http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e17532a1f4b46500d6e6d148bf103dde2d532a9e024467827a095 As Democrats clamor for new faces and Hillary brings back a familiar one, here's POLITICO's Morning Score: daily news, notes and essential information for the 2015 and 2016 election cycles. DCCC LANDSCAPE - Memo: How Dems see 2016 shaping up: The committee is convinced that Democrats will be on offense in next year's House races - and their attack on Republicans will be to paint them as hostile to immigrants, reckless with national security, opposed to women's rights and pursuing a "Don Quixote-esque quest to repeal a law that is helping millions" - a reference to Obamacare. The committee contends the House is "in play" and that as many as 70 seats will be competitive. (Note to the DCCC: there's a word for something "Don Quixote-esque." It's "quixotic.") - The party also labeled 15 House Republican "one-term wonders," naming its top targets for the new election cycle. They include: Martha McSally (AZ-02), David Jolly (FL-13), Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), Rod Blum (IA-01), David Young (IA-03), Bob Dold (IL-10), Mike Bost (IL-12), Bruce Poliquin (ME-02), Frank Guinta (NH-01), Cresent Hardy (NV-04), Lee Zeldin (NY-01), John Katko (NY-24), Ryan Costello (PA-06), Will Hurd (TX-23) and Barbara Comstock (VA-10). http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753c171fbffa616b0476caba9efd4e71f515649b414dcc56ebf http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e1753c171fbffa616b0476caba9efd4e71f515649b414dcc56ebf STAFF SWEAT - "Minority groups: Dems still falling short in consultants' diversity," by POLITICO's Lauren French and Anna Palmer: "Three months after a devastating loss that could put them deep in the political wilderness for years, House Democrats still haven't fixed one of their members' biggest complaints - the need to hire more minority consultants. For years, African-American and Latino members have protested that the party's campaign arms don't put nearly enough emphasis on hiring minority pollsters, consultants and strategists - an oversight that they argue hurt Democrats in the midterm election when people from those communities failed to vote. 'I think the lack of diversity in the contracting is quite clear. They can do better. Historically, the black caucus has been [taking] point on trying to highlight that issue,' said Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, a senior Congressional Black Caucus member. "Minorities, both black and brown, are the most loyal people to the party, and I think a recognition of that loyalty can come through the contracting.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e175328681fd7d025e5672414c5505e8301b6d201e6e4e0911c6b http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e175328681fd7d025e5672414c5505e8301b6d201e6e4e0911c6b - "Grunwald to join Hillary Clinton's team," by POLITICO's Gabriel Debenedetti: "Longtime Democratic operative Mandy Grunwald will join Hillary Clinton's probable presidential campaign as a top adviser, a Democrat familiar with the Clinton campaign structure confirmed to POLITICO on Thursday. Grunwald is a veteran of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign and Hillary Clinton's unsuccessful 2008 bid. She had recently been working for Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who has often been mentioned as a challenger to Clinton but who insists she will not run in 2016." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e175360e7fb424ec59ee9e1673397fc95447f1e96523c2bbdba7e http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d5014525b76e175360e7fb424ec59ee9e1673397fc95447f1e96523c2bbdba7e REPLACING GRIMM - Residents sue for Staten Island special: Eight Staten Island residents have filed suit against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to compel him to schedule a special election in the state's vacant 11th Congressional District. According to the lawsuit, first posted by Capital Tonight's Liz Benjamin, the residents contend they're being "denied their right to vote" for a successor to former GOP Rep. Michael Grimm, who resigned last month after pleading guilty to felony tax evasion. Cuomo has the authority to schedule a special election at any time, and he's been asked repeatedly but declined to offer a timeframe. The plaintiffs contend that Cuomo has failed to call for a special election in a "reasonably timely manner."
