*CHAMBER, BUSINESS GROUPS REQUEST FCC CLARIFICATION:* The *U.S. Chamber of Commerce*, business groups and trade associations have sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, asking the agency to clarify telemarketing rules that have "strong-armed" companies into large settlements. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act - passed by Congress to deal with complaints about unwanted telemarketing telephone calls - is being abused by plaintiffs' law firms seeking big legal fees, the letter states. http://politico.pro/1BSpgYP <http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f9301e82c4e71afd9dd61a065ced42604108d4cdd9cc1b620821bc4097285354> Ironically, as *Bryan Quigley,* a spokesperson for the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, pointed out to PI, the *American Association for Justice*, which represents many of those same plaintiffs' firms, is one of the organizations being sued by its members for violation of the telemarketing law. "The plaintiffs' lawyer lobby has finally found a lawsuit they believe is frivolous," Quigley said. "Perhaps now they can sympathize with what many companies face every day by being sued despite having done everything possible to comply with the law." Eric D.
