I’m writing to let you know that your 2017-18 academic schedule is ready to be viewed through the QuakerZone found by logging into the Student Portal. To view your schedule, select “Dashboard” at the top banner, and then select “Upper School Schedule” on the left banner. At the top of the screen you will have the option to print your schedule as a weekly grid. At the bottom of the screen you will see six columns: Course Name, Short Course Name, Teacher Last Name, Teacher 2 Last Name, Semester, and Room. You will need this information to order books. Please contact Jane Lenherr (<a href="mailto:registrar@sidwell.edu"><span style="color: blue;">registrar@sidwell.edu</span></a>) if you need assistance with logging into the QuakerZone.</span></p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Books</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">:</span></strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"> Books are available for purchase through the MBS Virtual Bookstore, and all purchases made between July 17 and July 28 will receive free shipping. To access the bookstore, please log into the Parent Portal and select “<a href="https://webapps.pcrsoft.com/Campus/Common/Service.aspx?notId=514612&scn=Sidwell&linkId=2408"><span style="color: blue;">MBS Bookstore</span></a>” (https://www.sidwell.edu/parent/upper-school). If you have any questions regarding ordering books online, please contact me. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Students who receive financial aid awards for tuition may receive some assistance to reduce the cost of book purchases. If you qualify for aid, you should have received notification from the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid informing you of the book grant amount as well as ordering instructions. <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Course Change Requests:</span></strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"> Course schedules for 2017-18 are extremely tight. Due to a number of scheduling constraints, students were not always placed into their first or second choice for electives in Art, History, and Computer Science. If you were erroneously placed in a class, please let me know so I can correct the error. As per school policy, requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. If you would like to change an elective, please download the “Course Change Form” (http://www.sidwell.edu/parent/upper-school/curriculum-planning) and scan and email the form to me at kimm@sidwell.edu. If you don’t have a scanner, there are some free apps such as Camscanner, which can turn a smartphone into a scanner (https://www.camscanner.com/). In some cases, it may not be possible to change courses, given the constraints of individual student schedules and full enrollment in many of the classes. If a requested elective is full, I can add your name to the waitlist.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"></span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Laptops:</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"> </span></strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Upper School students will need regular access to a laptop. Students who wish to borrow a laptop from the school may do so by checking out a laptop from the library on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. Students who receive financial aid and qualify for a school laptop will be provided with a laptop through the school. Please contact Frankie Brown for more information. All students have free access to printers and photocopiers in the library. </span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"></span></strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;"> </span></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Placement Exams</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">: </span></strong><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">Students who have been previously notified that they need to take a placement exam for language, math or science may do so on August 30, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in room 104/06. Please email me to confirm that you will take your placement assessment on August 30. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Times, serif;">If you need to contact me to discuss your schedule, please email Ms. Morillas (morillasj@sidwell.edu) to arrange a time to speak. I will be out of the office from July 24 until August 7 with limited access to email. If you are not able to schedule a time to speak with me before July 24, there will be plenty of time in mid-August for us to address any issues with your schedule before school starts.</span></p>
