Dear Members of the Board,

As a follow-up to our conversation at the WFP USA board meeting yesterday, I wanted to share our latest Hill Bi-Weekly Bulletin. We’ve been sending updates like this every other week to about 1,500 Hill staffers on key committees and in personal offices handling agriculture or foreign affairs issues. This is designed in “Politico Playbook” style, with no images and short paragraphs that staffers can quickly read on their cell phones.

Our team will send future updates directly to you. I hope this proves useful in keeping up with developments on WFP operations and selected global food security issues.

Next Tuesday, February 20th marks one year since famine was first declared in the world’s youngest nation. After mounting a colossal emergency response, humanitarian agencies were able to roll back famine conditions, but millions of people still teeter on the brink of starvation. * YEMEN: Last week four mobile cranes dispatched to Yemen began unloading deliveries of humanitarian aid and commercial goods in Hodeidah. Purchased by WFP with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development and capable of carrying about 60 tons each, the cranes will take half as long to unload ships carrying food, medicine and other critical supplies. Yemen is one of four countries right now facing famine as a result of conflict.
