With today's release of the Administration's proposal to
once again slash 30% of the resources for diplomacy and development,
military voices are weighing in like never before:

* VETERANS TAKE AIM. This morning, more than 1,200 veterans from
all 50 states and every military branch took aim at these newly
proposed cuts in a letter to Congressional leadership. Their
message: "ensure that our country makes the commitments
necessary to prevent conflict so that

we only send our brothers and sisters in uniform into
harm's way as a last resort."

* THE BRASS. These veterans joined the largest number of retired
three and four-star generals and admirals ever, 150+ including
Generals Petraeus, Hayden, McChrystal, Zinni, and Admiral
Stravridis - who made their own case to Congress just
yesterday for resourcing America's civilian forces.

* LISTEN TO MATTIS. Everyone has heard General Mattis'
famous quote about needing to fund the State Department or he
will need more ammunition. But we should also listen to
Secretary Mattis' formidable quote: "America's
got two fundamental powers: the power of intimidation and the
power of inspiration."

It's time to listen to our battled-tested leaders and ensure we
fund the "power of inspiration," - delivered through
our development, humanitarian and diplomatic programs. Whether the
serious threats are from ISIS, pandemics, or continued unrest from
famines, our military are the first to remind us: "Today's
crises do not have military solutions alone."
