NDI will be co-hosting three parallel events INVITATION: NDI's Commission on the Status of Women Parallel Events [1] Dear Friend, The sixty-second session of the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women [2] will take place at UN Headquarters in New York from March 12 to 23, 2018. The National Democratic Institute (NDI) will be co-hosting three parallel events with some of our partners during this time. The first event will be a joint panel with Equal Measures 2030 [3] on "Measuring Women's Empowerment: The Never-Ending Story?" The panelists will include: Professor Anne-Marie Goetz [4], Clinical Professor at the Center for Global Affairs, at New York University (NYU); Winrose Nyaguthii Mwangi of Groots Kenya [5]; Alison Holder [6] of Equal Measures 2030; and Sandra Pepera [7] Director of Gender, Women and Democracy at NDI [8]. The panel will discuss the definitional debates and the challenges of measuring women's empowerment. The event will take place on Monday, March 12, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Aqua Room (4 W 43rd St, New York, NY 10036). Measuring Women's Empowerment: The Never-Ending Story? RSVP for THIS Event [9] "Pushing Back: Strategies for Combating Violence Against Women in Politics" is co-sponsored by Liberal International [10] and the International Network of Liberal Women [11]. The panel discussion will feature: HE Dr. Dubravka Šimonović, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women [12]; Abir Al-Sahlani [13], former MP in Iraq and in Sweden, and Liberal International representative; South African legislator, Denise Robinson MP [14], Chair of the Democratic Alliance's Women's Network [15]; Michael McNulty, Senior Program Manager for Elections and Political Processes at NDI; and Sandra Pepera [7] NDI's Director of Gender, Women and Democracy. The event will take place on Friday, March 16, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Social Hall (4 W 43rd St, New York, NY 10036). Pushing Back: Strategies for Combating Violence Against Women in Politics RSVP for THIS Event [16] Our third joint partnership event is with Kenya Women Holding [17]. It will discuss "Accessing Resources to Advance Women's Participation in Democratic Processes in Kenya." Panelists will include Dr. Jennifer Riria [18], CEO of Kenya Women Holding and other international guests. The panel will highlight the urgent need to build the capacity of women's movements and organizations that are focused on preparing women for politics. The event will take place on Saturday, March 17, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Church Center of the United Nations (777 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017).
