R.Hunter: It has been only a year since Betsy DeVos was confirmed as secretary of education - but even in that short time, her actions have had a clear impact on our public schools and millions of our most vulnerable students.

Time and again, she's sided with suspect for-profit universities over struggling students, making it even harder for them to climb out of debt.

She has stripped away the very rules put in place to protect students with disabilities and those who have been sexually assaulted.

She has proposed cutting more than $9 billion from the federal education budget and was willing to slash public schools' anti-bullying initiatives in order to funnel more money into wealthier private schools.
