I don't know how much revenue it would raise but why don't the Dems propose to the SuperCommittee that they split the difference on the Bush tax cuts. That is, make them permanent for all rates but at only 50% of amount they were decreased by Bush. That way, everyone can declare victory. Dems get their tax increase and GOP locks in a lower rate than they would see if the tax cuts are just allowed to expire. I get that the GOP wouldn't go for it but Dems should make the proposal either way and publicize it. I would dare them to take the deal by including the Middle Class taxes in it - i.e., middle class taxes would also "increase" (although they wouldn't increase to the levels under Clinton). Shows the inherent fairness in it and Dems wouldn't be accused of class warfare - everyone agrees to give back half of their tax cut for the good of the country. I am curious how much revenue it would raise but I think it'd be great even though there is a risk for Dems that they'd be accused of raising middle class taxes in a recession.
