From 8 law firms introduced by the friends in the USD PE industry, we shortlisted to 3 candidates:
1. Ropes & Gray LLP: its business is only PE related law services, including fund formation and deal execution. It’s the long-time-engaged law firm of TPG and Bain Capital, globally. And it was asked by TPG and Bain to open up the Asian/Chinese practice when TPG and Bain came to this market years ago. Citic is also its client.
2. Debevoise & Plimpton LLP: the law firm of CDH, Hony, Carlyle and SAIF in fund formation.
3. Paul Hastings: the law firm of Apollo and KKR in fund formation, but the most of its fund team is in London.

For our fund formation, the preliminary fee estimation is USD 200,000 – 300,000.

Based on the conversation with each of them, we prefer Ropes & Gray as the first choice.
I have just talked to Mr Che, and he is fine for the choice.
We’re having the 2nd round discussion to nail-down the working scope and fee arrangement.
