I would like to invite you to join me for a "Meet and Greet" with the former
Mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mufi Hannemann, a Democratic candidate for the
2nd District House seat (rural Oahu and all of the Neighbor Islands) in
Hawaii, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 12: 00 Noon, at the offices of The
National Group, 818 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., 10th Floor Conference Room.


Mayor Hannemann has been a long time force in Hawaii politics, having served
as Director of the State of Hawaii Department of Economic Development, on
the Honolulu City Council and six years as Mayor of the City and County of
Honolulu. The City and County of Honolulu comprises the entire island of
Oahu, which contains the large Honolulu urban area and famous Waikiki Beach,
as well as a vast rural area which contains growing suburbs, farms and small
towns as well as some of the nation's largest Air Force, Marine, Navy and
Army bases. The City and County of Honolulu is the nation's 12th largest
city.


As Mayor, Mufi dealt with many Honolulu, Oahu and State of Hawaii-wide
issues involving housing, transportation, energy, health care, education,
economic development, and crucial protection of the environment of Hawaii.
Because Honolulu is one of the nation's largest tourist destinations by both
Americans and foreigners, Mufi has been a national leader in the development
of Hawaii and U.S. tourism as a member of the National Conference of Mayors.
Mufi has also had an extensive involvement in military issues because of the
multiple military bases on Oahu. The Mayor also strongly supported the
development of a light rail transportation system for the City of Honolulu
which is now moving toward implementation.


The Mayor also has a very close working relationship with the current
members of the Hawaii Congressional Delegation, especially Senator Daniel
Inouye, who worked closely with the Mayor during his six years in office on
federal funding for the Honolulu light rail system and on a myriad of other
issues effecting the City and County.


After falling short of winning the nomination to run for Governor of Hawaii
last year, Mufi was named the head of the Hawaii Hotel Association, a
position in which he continues to serve today.


The 2nd District Congressional seat is being vacated by Congresswoman Mazie
Hirono, who is running for the Senate seat of retiring Senator Daniel Akaka.
Mufi is extremely familiar with the needs of the 2nd District having run
previously for Governor of Hawaii and having campaigned in all corners of
the State. The Democratic primary in Hawaii will be in August of 2012 and
two other candidates have filed for the seat.
