The first relates to a recent study by researchers at the College of William and Mary which shows that democracy and governance assistance, rather than economic aid, can better address the root causes of emigration flows from developing countries. The second article in the *Economist* reports on the UN's latest Arab Development Report, which predicts a new wave of youth protests as repressive regimes in the Middle East curtail mechanisms for participation and accountability.
