Businessman Bill Lee won the Republican nomination for governor in Tennessee on Thursday, defeating three primary opponents, including Rep. Diane Black, the former chair of the House Budget Committee.

With 65 percent of precincts reporting, Lee led the field with 37 percent of the vote. Black, with 22 percent, was in third place, behind Randy Boyd, a former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, who was at 25 percent. State House Speaker Beth Harwell was running in fourth place.

Lee will face former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, who won the Democratic primary Thursday, in the general election in November.
