What’s in an Acorns portfolio?
The five Acorns portfolios include seven exchange-traded funds (ETFs)
from leading investment management companies, Vanguard and BlackRock.
Collectively, these funds invest in thousands of stocks and bonds,
including real estate, large and small company stocks and emerging and
developed market stocks. Why? Because diversification. With a mix of stocks
and bonds in your portfolio, if some investments are down, others are
likely to be up, which can make for a smoother ride when the market is
bumpy.
Why doesn’t my Acorns portfolio perform the same as the
stock market?
Long story short, your Acorns investment portfolio and “the
market” aren’t the same. Thousands of stocks are traded through the
U.S. and global stock exchanges, so unless your portfolio contains all of
them, your performance won’t match the market. Don’t get distracted by
media hype or daily ups and downs. Stay focused on the long game and
remember, historically the markets have trended up.

What’s an index fund?
An index fund is a mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF) that is
designed to track a specific index of stocks, bonds, or other types of
investments. For example, an S&P 500 index fund would invest in all 500
stocks of that market index. Index funds are a good way to keep your
portfolio diversified and less exposed to individual company fluctuations
than if you were invested in fewer stocks.
