It is with great excitement that I write to you as the new Nanette L. Laitman Director of the Museum of Arts and Design. In my first weeks at MAD, I have engaged in myriad conversations that have left me inspired and energized. I have become better acquainted with board and staff members through dialogue that has deepened my understanding of the Museum, its history, and its audiences. I am encouraged by their commitment and delighted to join such a dedicated, focused team.

MAD is a world-class museum with a legacy of commitment to the preservation and development of craft, which I look forward to continuing. As a staunch supporter of art and design, I believe it is vital to promote new ideas, encourage debate, and engage in meaningful collaborations. I came to the United States from England as an art student, and since my earliest days here as a young graduate, art has been a way for me to create community and to make sense of unfamiliar environments. Today, I continue to believe that art and design serve a powerful purpose for understanding the world and I am eager to begin working with our stellar board and staff to create new experiences that honor the history of MAD while challenging the way we think about the role of art and design in society. There is much to be done, but I'm certain the future is bright as we face challenges and exciting opportunities head on.

We are incredibly grateful for your support, and we welcome your continued company on the journey ahead! As Director, I look forward to implementing a plan that builds upon the international reputation that has made MAD one of the world's leading museums of artistic excellence. I hope to have the opportunity to spend time with each of you in the coming weeks and months, and to hear about your hopes and goals for the Museum. Please stay tuned for news as we work to position MAD as the foremost museum in the contemporary world of craft, art, and design.
