Danny Turns Huckleberry Hound Transitioning to a forever home is a big step. There are so many details about daily life that we forget about once our dog has been with us for a while! Here is an update from a recent donor about Danny, now Huck (definitely Mark Twain inspired!) has been settling in nicely. "Huck is settling in nicely! He was quick to learn how to use his doggy door and is able to go in and out as he pleases. At the present time he prefers to stay wherever I am. He is eating and sleeping like a very happy and healthy dog. He enjoys a 45 minute walk every morning after breakfast and another shorter walk after dinner. He is very social and friendly with the neighborhood dogs he meets along the way. He sleeps on his own bed next to mine. Also Huck gets along with my cat ....very important! He does not bark when I leave the house, but just goes crazy and barks when I return. He also does the same when I get his harness for a walk. It is really quite comical. He does not jump on me or guests who have come to the house but just sits and that crazy beagle bark. I am sooooooo glad we were matched up! Just a really loving dog!" Meet Our Must Have Animals Our weekly wish list of dogs and cats to save! Each week we seek to rescue new animals from our rural shelter partners before they face euthanasia due to space. It is essential that we secure sponsorship for these animals in order to cover their initial vetting and transport costs. We had great success from our wonderful Facebook supporters, but the new algorithm has drastically hurt our ability to reach out! To ensure we can continue to say YES to these puppies, dogs, kittens and cats, each week we will share with you some of our must have animals in hopes you will consider donating to their sponsor costs. Time is running out for these dogs Once we receive word from our shelter partners, we have very limited time to act and save these dogs before our weekly transports each Wednesday! If we cannot secure sponsorship for these dogs by Tuesday night, they may never get a second chance. Will you help us in these final 24 hours so we can save more lives? Meet a few of this week's animals in need: Don’t forget about the lil guy Coat of copper, heart of gold Can you see me? These medical emergencies are in desperate need of extra TLC. If you are able, please consider helping us ease their pain. Shihtzu with Broken Back - MEDICAL EMERGENCY: HOSPITALIZATION Toby had a terrible week. He was hit by a car and suffered major injuries. His family surrendered him to the shelter. His pain medicine couldn't keep up with the pain so he found himself crying and shivering constantly. A quick list of injuries: multiple chest contusions, L7 vertebrae fracture, possibly a sacral fracture and luxating patella. So there he was... in extreme pain, hardly able to walk, without his family, and in a scary loud shelter. And then we stepped in... Homeward Trails Animal Rescue | P.O.
