Tiger’s improvement. It’s a small sample size, but ever since switching to a TaylorMade Ardmore 3 putter, Tiger Woods has improved on the greens (https://golfweek.com/2018/08/13/tiger-woods-putter-swap-appears-to-pay-off-especially-from-mid-range/) . It’s especially apparent in his statistics from outside 10 feet, where he made 15.87 percent before the putter swap then improved to 23 percent in the three events for which statistics are available since he put the new putter in play.
Driving in France. Eight players were automatically selected for the U.S. Ryder Cup team after the PGA Championship, and it’s a pretty powerful group. Feel and control. Cleveland’s new RTX-4 wedges, (https://golfweek.com/2018/08/10/cleveland-rtx-4-wedges/) the fourth generation of the RTX family, were designed with input from Tour players to provide plenty of feedback and shot-shaping control. A new manufacturing process provides sharper grooves, and the clubs are available in four bounce options.
Re-introducing a classic. Ben Hogan’s Edge irons were introduced in the 1980s, but a modernized version with updated manufacturing processes is now available. The new clubs have a two-part construction (http://golfweek.com/2018/03/26/ben-hogan-edge-irons/) with thinner faces in the long irons to boost ball speed and thicker faces in the short irons to enhance control.

WINNER'S BAG

Major strength. Brooks Koepka overpowered Bellerive to win his second major title of the year and third overall, averaging 324.1 yards off the tee for the week while still hitting 73.21 percent of the fairways. Nike sweeps the majors. Nike announced it was pulling out of the golf equipment business two years ago, and at the time the company said it planned to focus on apparel and footwear. This season Nike-adorned athletes won each of the four majors. Tiger Woods, who has worn Nike since he turned pro, has received the most air time, but the success of 2018 major-winners Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed and Francesco Molinari – as well as the high visibility of Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Paul Casey – has kept Nike in the spotlight.

Curry opts for Callaway. NBA superstar Stephen Curry competed in last week’s Web.com Tour's Ellie Mae Classic and used a bag of mostly Callaway gear. Curry used a Callaway Rogue driver and a GBB Epic 3-wood, along with X-Forged UT (3-4) and X-Forged 2018 (5-PW) irons. He also played Callaway MD3 Milled wedges (50, 54, 60 degrees) and used a Chrome Soft X ball. Curry's putter was a Scotty Cameron Futura X5.
