Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison won his party's nomination for attorney general of Minnesota Tuesday, days after the son of an ex-girlfriend accused Ellison of abuse.

Ellison had 54 percent of the vote with 31 percent of precincts reporting when the Associated Press called the race. His nearest challenger, state Rep. Debra Hilstrom, had 16 percent.

Ellison has denied the allegations from Austin Monahan, who claimed to have video showing Ellison dragging his mother, Karen Monahan, by her feet and screaming at her. Ellison said in a statement that he "never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false."
