Hey, hope you’re doing well.

Sorry to bother you again on the US-Spain Council’s invitation to the Vice President, but I hope you won’t mind passing this message along to Hunter. Thanks.

Here’s the update.

Senator Menendez spoke to the Vice President about the invitation to speak at the US-Spain Council’s annual forum in Washington, DC, when the Vice President visited the Capitol for Mexican President Calderon’s address to the Joint Meeting of Congress. Consistent with their previous conversations, the Vice President acknowledged that he was aware of the invitation and that he would be interested in delivering remarks to the gathering if his schedule allowed him to do so. The Vice President told the Senator that he was scheduled to be in South Carolina for a Fritz Hollings event on Friday night, July 23rd. The Vice President then told Senator Menendez that he was looking at having possible down time on Saturday in South Carolina.

Based on what we understand to be the Vice President’s schedule, what we would like to ask the Vice President to consider is that he address the closing dinner of the US-Spain Council’s dinner on Saturday night, July 24th. The dinner promises to be a very special event as it will be one of only a very small handful of events to be held in Statuary Hall in the Capitol this year. I believe the Vice President would enjoy the dinner as it will be attended by the three or four Spanish ministers (including the Second Vice President of Spain and the Minister of Foreign Relations), a bi-partisan mix of U.S. Senators and House Members, and the top business executives from both the U.S. and Spain who will be attending the forum. Estimates right now have total participation in the dinner at 120 guests. The dinner will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Vice President would be welcome to speak at any time between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

I am attaching the Forum’s draft agenda and participant list.

Please let me know how best to proceed in discussing this invitation with Hunter.
