Scheduled Network Maintenance June 26 and 27
Our IT staff needs to take down our entire network for important upgrades to our servers. To avoid as many problems as possible, we have determined that the weekend of June 26 and 27 is the optimum time for this important network maintenance. Please be aware that all SFS functions will not be available for those two weekend days, including email, Educator, and access to files stored on our network. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but hope you understand that this is necessary for the health of our network. Thank you for your patience.

The School has teamed up with Common Cents Solar of Chevy Chase to install solar panels on the Lower School Gym. The School will provide roof space and will purchase the solar generated electricity at fixed rates that protect it against inflating energy costs. Lower School students will be able to monitor energy production from computers linked to the system while the school reinforces its commitment to a reduced carbon footprint. School community members can support the project by purchasing “solar bonds” in increments of $5,000 and earn a return of 3% annually for an estimated 10 years. The solar system won’t cost the School anything to install, and after the investors are repaid, Sidwell Friends will continue to enjoy solar energy at no cost for the rest of the expected 30 year life of the system. Thank You Upper School Parent Volunteers!
What do the following have in common: Pot-Lucks, Ice-Cream Socials, The Prom, Upper School Dances, Welcome Back Receptions, Pizza Socials, Community Service Events, Faculty Appreciation Breakfasts & Luncheons, and Senior Class Celebrations? If you answered, they are fun, build community and are part of the life of the Upper School, you would be correct. BUT, the other common thread is that these events are all organized and executed by a dedicated group of parents from the Upper School Parents Association. We take this opportunity to THANK YOU, each and every one of you who has worked tirelessly this past year and made our community a bit more fun and welcoming. Textbook Donation for Ramallah Friends School
The MBS buyback program will soon be upon us. This year, instead of receiving a few dollars for your used textbooks, please consider donating them to high school students who would really appreciate them at Ramallah Friends School. There is a tremendous need for gently used, current edition textbooks in math, science and english literature (please, no foreign language or history). We would also accept fiction and non-fiction literature to donate to their school library. There are boxes located in Ms. Parry's office and there will be boxes located outside the Crane Room on the MBS buyback days, June 8 and 9. Any questions contact Zaid at Zaid_mal@hotmail.com. Green Tip: Check out www.localharvest.org to find your closest/best (w/reviews) farmer’s market, community-supported agriculture group (CSA: local farm goods delivered to your door w/membership!), farm stands, food co-ops or even a green restaurant! USDA also has an extensive list of farmers markets and CSAs at www.apps.ams.usda.gov/FarmersMarkets/. Local food is good for the environment because it requires less CO2 and packing for delivery.
