Alan and Hunter,

In the continuing aftermath of the issue we discussed last night, is there
any chance we can get a two line letter today from the VP that the chairman
can take back to China that says something like, "I'm sorry I was unable to
meet with you during your trip to the United States and hope that you are
able to make another visit to our country soon." or something like that.

or if you don't want it personalized like that perhaps something like "I
hope you had a successful trip to the United States and hope that you are
able..."

Apparently, the board chair was told by officials in Hunan not to come to
the U.S. now because he was needed to stay in China but he told them he was
coming because he was going to meet the VP.

I'm sure I can't even begin to imagine the complications requests like this
one may present, but I'm trying to salvage a lousy situation which I learned
about yesterday.

or if that doesn't work, perhaps a letter from Hunter referring to his dad
or something...i think you get the point.
