But as Karla Adam reports (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/in-britain-remainers-find-hope-in-brexit-court-decision/2016/11/04/2596b078-a28b-11e6-8864-6f892cad0865_story.html?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) for the Washington Post, there were glimmers of hope on the “remain” side that Britain will opt for something other than a hard exit from the EU. Dive Deeper: The Peterson Institute’s Jacob Funk Kirkegaard authored “Will (Hard) Brexit Be Defeated by the Spirit of Magna Carta? (https://piie.com/blogs/realtime-economic-issues-watch/will-hard-brexit-be-defeated-spirit-magna-carta?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) ” ** Saudis Sparring with Iran ------------------------------------------------------------ Old disputes between Saudi Arabia and rival Iran resurfaced at a meeting of OPEC experts last week, with Riyadh saying it could raise oil output steeply to bring prices down if Tehran refuses to limit its supply, as Reuters reports (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-opec-oil-idUSKBN12Z1FM?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) in an exclusive. Dive Deeper: CSIS’s Sarah Ladislaw authored a new commentary today: “Supporting the Energy Innovation Agenda (https://www.csis.org/analysis/supporting-energy-innovation-agenda?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) .” ** In That Number ------------------------------------------------------------ ** 61% ------------------------------------------------------------ A recent survey of Japanese citizens reveals that 61% see America in decline. (http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/foreign-policy/303737-the-united-states-and-the-philippines-messy-divorce-or?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) ” ** One to Watch ------------------------------------------------------------ Lisa Collins is a fellow with CSIS’s Korea Chair. It happens to me all the time and I am glad that it does because it keeps me smiling. Spotify, the extraordinary, disruptive music streaming service did it to me this time. Spotify creates playlists of songs, usually around a common theme. I love it. And when I stumbled on to Spotify’s “Songs to Test Headphones With” playlist I hit pay dirt. The list is chock full of incredible songs. The one that stood out to me like a beacon though was “Last Goodbye” by the late Jeff Buckley. I hadn’t heard the song in years. Now, with good reason, I can’t get it out of my head. Buckley’s story is tragic. He was an incredible singer and musician who accidentally died in 1997 after wading into the Mississippi River for an evening swim only to drown in the wake of a passing boat. He was only 30 years old. I know, not much of a smile. But Buckley’s music endures. Rolling Stone has named him as one of its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. I couldn’t agree more. Stumbling on to “Last Goodbye” on Spotify’s playlist has proven a great smile. Here’s why (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgtxj2x2pJs&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=ea417428c8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-ea417428c8-145367789) . ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
