In case anyone is interested in a local program---see below. Nancy -----Original Message----- From: John D White II <jdwhiteii@verizon.net> Sent: Sat, Jun 5, 2010 8:42 pm Subject: FW: ODBC Select Summer 2010 Forwarded FYI … From:vasra-coaches@googlegroups.com [mailto:vasra-coaches@googlegroups.com] OnBehalf Of Nick Johnson Sent: 06/05/2010 1:33 PM To: VASRA Subject: [vasra_coaches] Re: ODBC Select Summer 2010 Please tell your rowers that ifthey missed registration for ODBC this morning, they can still register atpractice this week, which starts Monday at 4pm at the Alexandria boathouse. On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 10:16 AM, Nick Johnson <djowomencrew@gmail.com> wrote: Old Dominion Boat Club is proud to announce plans andschedules for the 2010 Summer Select program. Registration for theprogram will be on Saturday, June 5th at the Dee Campbell Rowing Center inAlexandria, VA (1 Madison Street, Alexandria, VA 22314) from 9am to noon. The first day of practice will be Monday, June 7th at 4pm. The men's and women's teams will each take 16 rowers and 3-4coxswains, unless there is an overwhelming need to keep a third boat on eitherside of the program. If cuts are necessary, tryouts will be during thefirst week of practices. Until the majority of schools are done for the year, practices will be held at the Dee Campbell Rowing Center at 4pm each afternoon, with the potential for Saturday practices when the team is not racing. Once school is out for the summer, morning practices will also be included inthe schedule, with actual days and times to be announced once the teams areset. The racing schedule is very intense, as the team competes infour regattas over the course of six weeks. 6/20 - Charm City Sprints (Baltimore) 7/2-7/4 - Independence Day (Philadelphia) 7/10 - Capital Sprints (Anacostia) 7/14-7/18 - Club Nationals (Oak Ridge, TN) The team will race in both 8's and 4's, giving each rower achance to race multiple times at each regatta. Travel and accommodationsfor the multi-day regattas will be discussed once teams are set. Both the men's and women's programs will train in 8's and4's throughout the course of the season. When the water/weather makesrowing impossible, the Dee Campbell Rowing Center is a state-of-the-artfacility, with a fleet of ergs and nearly a ton of weight-liftingequipment. The goal during practices is to prepare each rower andcoxswain for racing at a high level, while the overall goal for the entireprogram is to send each rower and coxswain back to their high school team assuperior athletes. The average rower in last summer's program took fiveseconds off of their 2k PR during the six week season. The men's head coach is Chris Cabrera from St John's CollegeHigh School. The women's head coach is Nick Johnson from Bishop O'ConnellHigh School. Any questions, comments or concerns for either coach, and toobtain more information about registration, send an email to odbc_select@yahoo.com -Nick and Chris -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups"VASRA Coaches Association" group.
