If the Senate Democrats were trying to make a symbolic point today on the GOP's wanting to hold up a tax cut for the middle class so that 2% of the richest Americans could also have one, why didn't they actually make the GOP fillibuster instead of just going to a cloture vote? Make them hold up the vote by standing on the floor for hours and hours and not be able to go home over the weekend. That might actually show the American people how desperate the GOP is to protect 2% of the population over the other 98%. Also make them really and truly fillibuster unemployment benefits. Remember what happened when Sen. Bunning did that last time. These guys are far too timid. Now they had a vote on a Saturday morning that no one paid attention to and no one understands. They'd understand it if there was a true fillibuster. And they'd see how a majority of the Senate supports the bill. -- Eric D.
