The economy added 200,000 jobs in January, the Labor Department reported Friday, up from a 160,000 increase in December.

Average hourly private-sector earnings were up 2.9 percent over the previous year. In December, they were up 2.7 percent. The unemployment rate remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive month at 4.1 percent.
