In 1973, a largely unknown 23-year-old Boss was captured live performing just months after his debut album “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” hit record store racks.

Springsteen’s record label, CBS had him open for Dr. Hook of “The Cover of the Rolling Stone” fame at the Ahmanson Theater in LA to generate a bit of buzz for their new artist—listen to the way they introduce Springsteen in this clip.

To put this into additional context into the following clip recall that “Asbury Park” was not a hit record and was met with mixed reviews. You won’t even recognize any of Bruce’s bandmates in this clip (unless you are a Springsteen fanatic) with the exception of the incomparable Clarence Clemons.
