They actually did it.

Instead of coming to a bipartisan agreement to honor the promise our country made to nearly 800,000 DREAMers, the federal government shut down this past weekend.

And last night, Donald Trump proposed giving over a million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship -- but only in exchange for billions of dollars to fund his border wall.

Trump is holding our hardworking DREAMers hostage, and as we've seen he can't be trusted. As Leann said, peoples' lives are not a bargaining chip, but Congress treated them that way and now the President is too.

Last September, President Trump announced the cruel and short-sighted termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

This left nearly 800,000 “DREAMers,” who were brought to America as children and are undocumented through no fault of their own, at risk of deportation as early as March.

President Trump is still trying to rip away their rights and threatening to separate families -- and Congress is doing nothing to fix it. The Republicans in Congress have decided to leverage DACA to try to force passage of their government spending legislation before a government shutdown takes effect Friday.

This is unacceptable. People’s lives are not a bargaining chip.

As a mother, my heart is breaking for these young adults, but together we can do something about it -- add your name and demand Congress take immediate action to protect DREAMers.

Imagine being 16 and filling out your driver's license application and asking your parents for your Social Security number, only to be told you don’t have one. Imagine applying for college and realizing you shouldn’t even bother because you can’t get in since your parents brought you to this country without papers at age 6.

DACA has allowed hundreds of thousands of DREAMers all across our county to get driver's licenses, apply for college, get jobs, pay taxes, and participate as productive members of American society in ways many of us take for granted.

We must demand immediate action to protect them from a nightmare they don’t deserve -- so please, add your name now and stand with DREAMers.
