Okay, I forgot to say potato salad. Extra sweet peppers w/hot on the side. Order of fries and a diet coke. Wait a second, I'm not at Portillos, am I? OK, then hold the fries, but keep everything else. I'd also like it to be served Dorothy style -- get it at Portillos but tell everyone you made it yourself. I remember when I was a young lass, she told someone that she baked a "homemade" cake and I said something about the box being in the garbage, and I got an "oh, Fran" look. At the time, of course, a cake was only considered "homemade" if it was from scratch. Now, if I warm up a bakery item in the micro, I consider it homemade. (I included those younger generation kids for whom I have an email. If you see someone missing, please forward to them.) Please respond to these two proposals: (1)KING CHRISTMAS COOKIE CLUB--It has been suggested that our dessert this year be a collaborative effort. Everyone would bring a dozen or so homemade cookies (their own favorite?) and then we can all sample and have lovely choices with our after dinner coffee. This opportunity would not be limited to older generations. Young kids are welcome to try their hand at making a dozen cookies, too. We no longer have Paula's wonderful cookies to lift our hearts. I think she sort of retired. What's that all about?! After all, it only took her two 16 hour days to make her cookies. What's hard about that? So, this proposal is to look to the future by starting a new cookie tradition. 2)WHAT MENU ITEMS MEAN "CHRISTMAS" TO YOU?--the Aunts are meeting this week to review the menu and we would like to know what items define Christmas for you. For instance, I think Johnny might say deviled eggs. A big hit with the kids last year was plain, buttered pasta. But what would YOU say? Now having requested this information, I am compelled to say that there's no guarantee you will actually GET your Memory-of-Christmas menu item, but if we're on the fence, multiple requests for something could make a difference... Uncle Jay has requested we "scale back" on food. Unfortunately, I think we make that effort every year...but it doesn't seem to happen. But we will try... Look forward to hearing from you-all. I attach two pix to put you in the spirit. One of the kids at the LaPorte Country Fair to remind us of how good it will be for the cousins to get together and one of Finny laying in the snow. I send the latter because it was the only cold weather pix I could find! Love from The Aunts
