Looks like a longterm CR at 2010 levels "with" COPS. I'd like to make one ask Alan - can you guys appeal to Mikulski to add report language for a $30 million carve out of COPS for the ICAC's? This what we got for FY11 and it amounts to full funding for the PROTECT ACT. Pendulum keeps swinging between CR and Omnibus. Re: politically toxic: I meant that it would be politically difficult to defend cutting COPS because of the ICAC carve out. That is, if someone powerful would make a public point about it, then it makes it harder to cut out in the light of day. I hope that makes more sense, it's been a long day. Unclear what you mean by 30 million being politically toxic. Would think that this is an important piece for them. I was at Chairman Mollohan's farewell party Wednesday and spoke with him and senior approps staff. The $600 million COPS funding in the Senate FY11 approps omnibus is on the chopping block. Coburn and DeMint want to cut it. The play as of right now is that the House will pass a longterm CR this week and send it to the Senate. The Senate is going to swap out the CR for the FY11 omnibus. A back room deal between the R's in the Senate who want their earmarks in FY11 is being hammered out and Coburn and Demint might agree to the swap if COPS is cut. The ICAC's have a 30 million carve out of COPS in the Senate FY11. House approps believe and advised me that this is the only really politically toxic piece of that 600 million. I was wondering if VPOTUS is planning on taking a public stand about this? Let me know when would be a good time to schedule a meeting with VPOTUS as discussed. Have you had a chance to reach out to DOJ yet?
