New Gene, New Hope

The rate of discovery of new ALS genes has greatly accelerated since the Ice Bucket Challenge with the latest finding of a new ALS gene, known as KIF5A, in March 2018. Since 2014, four other ALS genes have also been found. Knowledge of these genes allow scientists to target them for therapy, which increases the likelihood that a treatment will be found. Volunteer of the Month

A big thank you to Cosmas (Cos) Curry for rallying the Berwick community to fight ALS! When ALS ended his father's life, Cos was determined to help fight this devastating disease - one that gave his dad only months to live after diagnosis.
