On April 18th, C_TEC co-hosted the 2nd Annual Emerging Technologies & Torts of the Future event in Seattle along with the Institute for Legal Reform. While technologies such as autonomous vehicles and drones have taken off quickly, there are still questions looming around privacy and risks of liability. We heard from speakers Reggie Govan, former FAA Chief Counsel; Meghan Buck, Founder & CEO of VEDA Data; David Tressler, Senior Counsel at Waymo; and Caroline McCaffrey, GC and VP at Clarifai, among others. The discussion centered around what they see as the biggest benefits of these emerging technologies in their fields, but also how to navigate the risks as to not hinder the rate of innovation. It was a substantive discussion and we’re looking forward to continuing to work on these issues.

On April 10th, C_TEC held an in person New Economy working group meeting at the Chamber. The agenda included a presentation and discussion with Tim Blute, Director of the National Governors Association's Future project, an initiative designed to provide governors insights into emerging technological innovation.

On April 13th, Julie Stitzel moderated a panel with Salesforce's Hugh Gamble and Google's AJ Bhadelia on Tech Lash, the perceived backlash against tech companies, at the U.S. Chamber Foundation's MBA Washington Summit.

On April 16th, C_TEC held its UAS working group phone call. The working group discussed the FAA reauthorization bill and hosted a presentation by Andrew F. Giacini, Legislative Assistant to Congressman Jason Lewis (MN-02). Andrew's presentation focused on a proposed amendment from Congressman Lewis.

On April 17th, Jordan Crenshaw led a call with the Silicon Valley Organization briefing them on the AV Start Act bill.

On April 18th, C_TEC and the Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform successfully hosted an Emerging Technologies and Torts of the Future event in Seattle. The event explored emerging technologies and the impact of liability issues on innovation.

On April 24th, C_TEC participated in a roundtable discussion on Mobility as part of the House Smart Cities Caucus' series.

On April 25th, C_TEC hosted its monthly autonomous vehicle working group call. Cheri Pascoe, Chief Professional Staff Member of the Senate Commerce Committee, and Sydney Paul, Legislative Counsel to Senator Peters (D-MI), gave a quarterly briefing on the status of the AV START Act.

On June 1st, C_TEC will head west to talk 5G and autonomous vehicles at TecNation: Sacramento an event co-hosted with CTIA at the Golden1 Center - home to the Sacramento Kings.
