Research Institute (EBRI) reports that for the age 19 - 25 group of young people
being carried on their parent's employment based healthcare insurance coverage
increased from 24.7% (2009) to 27.7% (2010).

Health Literacy A Problem - In a recent study, it was determined that 48% of patients
misinterpret the drug labels on their medications and end up taking their medications
improperly!! Yes, that's nearly one-half of all prescriptions.

And, The Search For Beauty Goes On - RealSelf, a Seattle-based online social media
site for sharing information about cosmetic treatments, recently reported that searches

The Downside of No Individual Mandate - In a report released by the Robert Wood
Johnson (RWJ) Foundation last week, it was projected that insurance premiums could
rise 25% without the health insurance mandatebeing in place.

The Minority Affect the Majority - The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
recently released a report showing that in 2009 1% of Americans accounted for 22%

professionals as direct care providers in a market where shortages of primary care

The ongoing saga...

The Good - For the first time in 30 years, the rate of obesity is plateauing. According
to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, efforts such as placing nutritional
information on food packaging and other initiatives seems to be having some effect
- finally. On the downside, two-thirds of adults and one-third of children are still
obese.

The Tribute - Congrats to Muhammad Ali who celebrated his 70th birthday on January
17th. He is an icon that is remembered as much for his sports ability as for how
he has contributed to society.

The Bad - Healthcare received only about a 10 second mention in President Obama's
State of the Union speech, which means that his campaign is trying to put the issue
into the background for the 2012 re-election campaign - and, there's still a lot
to do to make healthcare reform better...

The Ugly - The Arab League is demanding that the Syrian government start a national
dialogue with the opposition within two weeks. They are also calling for a national
unity government, formed within two months, and for President Bashar al-Assad to
hand over powers to his vice president following the formation of the new government
- An observation since January 6, 2011 - we will keep as part of "The Ugly" until
the situation is resolved...
