Dear R. Hunter,

Since my prediction in October that the yen was likely to depreciate in
the run-up to and aftermath of the Japanese elections, the yen has lost
17% of its value against the US dollar. With the imminent announcement
of a new governor and two new deputy governors, I have written a
bulletin, "Japan's New Monetary Policy", which analyzes the events that
led up to this dramatic development and the challenges facing the Bank
of Japan in the months and years ahead.
