O'Say Can You See PAC, Governor Martin O'Malley

Whether it's horrific mass shootings like the ones in Newtown and Columbine, or murders on the streets of our cities, we lose far too many American lives each year to gun violence.

That's why we've introduced a comprehensive plan that would ban military-style assault weapons, limit large ammunition capacity and require licenses for handgun purchases. It invests in security upgrades for our schools and establishes a "Maryland Center for School Safety." And it tries to keep guns out of the hands of people with violent tendencies stemming from mental illness by expanding mental health crisis services.

But let me be clear, we respect hunters and sportsmen -- that's why we explicitly carve out shotguns and rifles from the licensing requirements of our bill.

Lobbyists for the gun manufacturers are working hard to oppose these common-sense initiatives. If we're going to get these proposals passed, everyone will need to lend their voice. Here are three important ways you can get involved:

Who can watch the devastating images of these horrific tragedies and who can see the pictures of those young faces or their anguished parents and honestly say that we are doing enough? We must do more. We will do more. But we need your help to get it done.
