Whether keeping a presentation intact or transporting files and a tablet during a hurried airport dash, a portfolio is a business trip essential. With this in mind, Monocle's latest collaboration with Japanese leather goods designer Ganzo has produced this limited edition folio. We spoke to brand director Yoshirou Ajioka to learn more.

Where did the inspiration to make Ganzo leather goods begin?

Ganzo started in 1999. Around that period imported goods were becoming more popular but we thought it was more meaningful to support making luxury leather goods here in Japan that can stand side-by-side with Western ones. Experiences gained while living in Italy showed us the benefits of strong design and the processes

for leather goods produced there.

The Ganzo Folio Case x Monocle brings luxury to an everyday item. Can luxury be for the everyday?

We think luxury cannot be missed out from our daily lives. But it has to be useful at the same

time as having a good image. When things are not practical, they will be discarded and we'll take a different route. We want to nurture a high standard in our products with the user in mind

so that the products have a personal touch and the owner feels close to them.

What are some of the standout features of the Ganzo x Monocle Folio Case?

This product is carefully handmade by a single craftsman who specialises in making bags. The bridle leather is from J & E Sedgwick & Co Ltd that we use for our belts, bags and other goods. The Ganzo Folio Case x Monocle uses smooth textured suede with raised fabric and we've

taken time to create the best result for each

of the materials.
