The first POC Arelis was a dead end so I sent it to the person I met last year with the Senator (Kate) but she apparently doesn’t work there any ore or at least her email is inactive. From: Caleb Crye Sent: Monday, April 07, 2014 12:13 PM To: 'kate_dineen@gillibrand.senate.gov' Subject: FW: Crye MultiCam Brooklyn Navy Yard US Army Hello Kate, We met at the Brooklyn Navy Yard last year. I hosted Senator Gillibrand on a tour of our facility where we design and manufacture equipment for our military personnel. I am reaching out because we have recently encountered a problem that puts Soldiers at undue risk and threatens our business in New York City where we employ just under 200 people. Full disclosure- at the guidance of the Navy Yard I have already reached out to another person from your office (Arelis Hernandez). She has been very helpful so far and and has indicated she will forward our information to the appropriate people and get back to us so I am now just trying to augment her effort and make sure your team is clear on the issue. I apologize in advance if I am breaking a protocol by sending this directly to you, my goal is simply to make sure this critical Soldier survivability issue is not lost in translation. I have attached a quick summary powerpoint and a copy of a memo we recently released to the public regarding this issue. In a nutshell this is what is happening: (feel free to call me anytime if that is quicker) · We invented and own a camouflage pattern called MultiCam®. The Army has spent 10’s of millions of dollars competitively testing Army developed camo patterns against MultiCam® for the last 10 years. MultiCam® has won all these official tests. · In 2010 the Army started issuing uniforms and gear printed in our MultiCam® pattern but only for troops in Afghanistan. · Despite this, the Army’s official camo pattern is still a pattern called “UCP”. UCP has been proven (by the Army) to put Soldiers at significant unnecessary risk since 2006 yet they still issue it. · In 2013 Congress passed a law (Sec 352 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal year 2014) saying the DOD “…shall eliminate the development and fielding…” of new (non-currently issued) camo patterns unless they will be “…adopted by all Armed Forces.” · In 2013 the Army announced it was moving to (currently issued) MultiCam®, for the entire Army. · Strangely, and apparently illegally, the Army now says it plans to develop its own new (non-currently issued) pattern by copying key aspects MultiCam®. · MultiCam® is combat-proven and it has won all the official Army evaluations of the last 10 years. There is no reason the Army should be wasting more time and money trying to yet again develop another copy of our pattern hoping another decade of testing finds a pattern as good as MultiCam. All this while the Army continues to issue UCP, a pattern that has been proven to put Soldiers at unnecessary risk since 2006. What we are looking for: · Crye Precision would like to ask for your support on behalf of our employees, the tax payers, and most importantly the Soldiers who depend on our camouflage pattern to protect them in combat. · We want to make sure Senior Army leadership has all the facts. · We believe many key aspects of this important issue are being kept from high-level decision makers to further a misguided low-level agenda aimed at replacing our product with an “Army-developed” copy of our product. We believe this agenda puts fictitious cost fears and ego above Soldier safety and we can show an undeniable track record of such unwarranted behavior by the Army. We believe Senior Army leadership will agree with us that MultiCam®, having been proven time and time again to provide the Solder a significant and undeniable life-saving advantage in combat, should be adopted Army-wide… if they knew the facts.
