We came up short last night – and while it's the outcome that none of us wanted, I wouldn't take a moment of this campaign back.


Throughout the past year, I've met so many amazing people and I'm reminded particularly of one woman whose words will stay with me forever.


Knocking the doors on the Westside, an elderly woman told me that to earn her support, I had to fight for justice.


Justice for the young children who have so much potential but who are counted out by a system that pushes them aside. Justice for a community that has been beaten down time and again.


Our fight, the fight for the mothers who want to see their children have the opportunity to do better than they did, is not one that is won or lost in a single election. That fight is something I've dedicated my life to – and last night's election results won't change that.


There are many ways to serve one's community, to give back for the hands-up I was given, as were my seven siblings, in order to make successful careers where our parents had struggled.


That fight lives on in all of us.


I can't thank my family, my team, my volunteers and all of my supporters enough for standing by me throughout this campaign. I have been amazed by each and every one of you, time and time again.
