Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president during an interview on MSNBC Thursday. "I'm ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States and to make sure that Donald Trump never gets anyplace close to the White House," she said. Warren, while becoming increasingly active as an attack dog against Trump, had been careful not to tip her hand toward either Sen. Bernie Sanders or Clinton in the Democratic primary. But with Clinton securing the Democratic nomination this week, top Democrats have rushed to endorse her. After months of remaining officially neutral while signaling where his sympathies lie, President Barack Obama announced his support for Clinton in a video posted online Thursday afternoon. Two days earlier, Clinton was endorsed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Warren, with her fierce critiques of Wall Street financiers, is a darling of the progressive left - her backing may help smooth over the lingering tensions from Clinton's hard-fought primary battle with Sanders. Top Democrats - including outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid - are pushing Clinton to make Warren her running mate, arguing that her credibility with the left and her ability to punch hard at Trump are needed for the fierce general election to come. Clinton has said that she is intrigued by the idea of a two-woman ticket, though she has not explicitly said that Warren was being considered for the job. She spoke admiringly of Warren in an interview with POLITICO on Thursday, praising the Massachusetts senator as "an incredible public servant, eminently qualified for any role." Discussions over when the endorsement would happen have been going on for at least the past few weeks, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the process. Some in Warren circles advocated for holding off and giving Bernie Sanders supporters more breathing room after Tuesday night. But endorsing on Thursday was moved up after Obama decided to back Clinton, those sources said.
