Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will not run for California's open Senate seat next year, he announced today.

Villaraigosa, a Democrat who served two terms as L.A.'s mayor, indicated he's still interested in public service, but "I know that my heart and my family are here in California, not Washington, D.C."

Democratic Attorney General Kamala Harris announced her campaign shortly after Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said she wouldn't run for another term next year. A number of other Democrats are considering the race, including members of the state's congressional delegation.
