06/01/2016 07:50 AM EDT By Mike Allen (@mikeallen; mallen@politico.com) and Daniel Lippman (@dlippman; dlippman@politico.com) Good Wednesday morning, and welcome to June. It's 47 days to Cleveland, 54 days to Philly, and 160 days to Election Day. "RATINGS BUMP" -- "MSNBC's year of standing up straight ... a new push for the network, away from the Lean Forward years," by Hadas Gold: In an interview, president Phil "Griffin boasted that the crisis has passed: MSNBC is succeeding as it rebrands from a place to 'lean forward' to the place for in-depth news coverage ... [This week MSNBC is] ... unveiling a new [ad] campaign ... [featuring] group portraits of four groups of MSNBC talent: 'Pros,' including Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd; 'The Codebreakers,' including Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell; the 'Road Warriors,' featuring campaign trail reporters like Katy Tur and Jacob Soboroff; and 'The Firebrands' which will feature only Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski ... "[A]nother ad that will run in some conservative and mainstream outlets features some of MSNBC's conservative and Republican contributors - like ... Hugh Hewitt ... Steve Schmidt and former RNC chairman Michael Steele - with a cheeky message: 'People might start accusing us of leaning too far to the right.' ... Griffin said there are no changes coming to primetime, at least not before the election." With awesome pic, and two of the new ads http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d2d6c39f18d23d5d5eae5b278dd5eab1f273d8daba66766e12f5e2968ad91b19 SIREN -- "Adelson aides in talks to set up pro-Trump super PAC," by Alex Isenstadt: "Adelson's team has been in talks with a small group of big-name political consultants, including former [RGA] executive directors Nick Ayers and Phil Cox, former Rand Paul campaign manager Chip Englander, and former Mitch McConnell chief of staff Josh Holmes. ... Last week, Adelson adviser Andy Abboud met with Ayers in Las Vegas to discuss the possible group ... Chris Christie has also ... played a leading role helping to coordinate talks between a national network of donors and the possible consultants." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d2d6c39f18d23d5d5fd1a9516d3aea5d13f33fe1190b7935ced10c10cc34ee7e --Sean Hannity voting Trump, per Nick Gass ... Hannity said on his Fox show last night, during an interview with Trump: "I am not the corrupt press. I'm actually the conservative here ... I'm an opinion show. And I don't hold back that I'll be voting for Donald Trump in November." Trump: "Thank you." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d2d6c39f18d23d5da351e7539bc3fdfe0cbf678f80e03b2e8773fbbf7e0a6cad --GETTING THERE! Fred Malek, who has advised four U.S. presidents, in WashPost, "Trump's attacks on fellow Republicans must end. Now": "Many Republicans, including myself, are coming around to support him, but we also believe it is imperative for Trump to recognize that the time for slash and burn is over." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=d2d6c39f18d23d5d6f6823d543e596a1e7f02f1d9716b7d4c2a276af88d0ec62 JUST POSTED, from Vanity Fair's Summer issue, "Inside Twitter's $10 billion identity crisis ...DORSEY'S DILEMMA," by Nick Bilton, author of "Hatching Twitter," now a Vanity Fair special correspondent (seven pages in mag): "The solution to Twitter's problems, [Twitter execs] reiterated, along with [CEO and co-founder Jack] Dorsey, is ... 'live.' ... He said he has a slew of new features-including hosting live video from the N.F.L., where people can talk about the game as they watch it-that will grow the audience and focus on that single, live strategy. ... "[P]eople close to Facebook ... have told me that, while Zuckerberg could still be interested in buying the company, he wouldn't want to get into a bidding war. Apple is an option, perhaps, but a lot of people in the Valley believe it's got bigger challenges ahead, and a social network isn't going to help sell millions of iPhones. Then there are the not-so-sexy possibilities, such as Microsoft, Alibaba, or Verizon." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2177b0f87cb3726510dc806ad69460895a635740e1cf0088761bf1eeae67e9d1 POP SOME POPCORN: N.Y. Times intrigue - Sarah Ellison for Vanity Fair's The Hive, launching today, "Can anyone save The New York Times from itself?": James "Bennet's appointment [as Editorial Page Editor] fueled newsroom gossip that he had been brought back with the assurance that he would eventually succeed [Executive Editor Dean] Baquet. (Bennet told me this was not true.) ... Two former Times editors ... told me they heard reports that two editors on the masthead, Clifford Levy and Joe Kahn (who head up digital platforms and international coverage, respectively) wondered aloud what the Bennet appointment meant for them. Both Kahn and Levy, who are friendly with Bennet, deny this and say they have nothing but enthusiasm for his arrival. ... "It is impossible to imagine a world without The New York Times. But it is also increasingly impossible to imagine how The New York Times, as it is currently configured, continues to exist in the modern media world. ... The Times recently announced a meal-delivery service through which customers can pay to have ingredients from its recipe pages delivered to their doors. "More significantly, it is [in]vesting heavily in native advertising, podcasting, and virtual reality. ... [T]here are those who question whether the Times has the cultural will, or fortitude, to make the necessary hard decisions." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2177b0f87cb37265f9219e7fd0a67ecd1febf85f9a344cef74da7aabea2f42c1 --NEW ON THE TWITTERS: @VFhive ... He's not stupid". HOT HEADLINE on NYT "Critic's Notebook" on Trump presser, p. I have to tell you that, OK? ... I'm going to continue to attack the press. Look, I find the press to be extremely dishonest. I find the political press to be unbelievably dishonest. I will say that. OK. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Thank you very much." --"Testy Trump takes his war with the press to a new level," by AP's Michael Biesecker, Jill Colvin and Steve Peoples, with Jonathan Lemire: AP "spoke or left messages with each of the organizations Trump named. Of the 26 groups that responded, ... half said they had received checks from Trump just last week. Home, auto, and business insurers are committed to assisting policyholders in need, quickly and efficiently. Insurers have a strong track record following even the most devastating of natural disasters. In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, insurers settled more than 130,000 flood claims, with only one percent of claims going to litigation. The private insurance sector paid more than 1,500,000 million Sandy claims from all other insured losses, with less than one percent going to litigation. But there is still work to be done. Insurers are looking at new tools and methods to improve our response after natural disasters. The industry also is working with Congress to make improvements to the flood insurance system. Building safer, stronger, more resilient communities is a goal for us all. We are all in this together.
