06/22/2016 07:42 AM EDT By Heather Caygle (hcaygle@politico.com or @heatherscope) With assistance from Jennifer Haberkorn HIL ON THE HILL- This morning presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton heads to the Hill to huddle with House Democrats for the first time since she locked down the nomination. The meeting (and photo op) will give rank-and-file Democrats the chance to publicly shower Clinton with their support and rumor around the Capitol is that she may even take a few press questions after. What this meeting won't be? A major outreach to House progressives that publicly backed Sen. Bernie Sanders in the primary fight, at least according to House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, who says they're on Team Clinton already. "I think there's not much of bridge here that's necessary to be built," Hoyer told reporters. "There needs to be inclusion, there needs to be outreach and I think that Mrs. Clinton is doing that." But: "Anytime you have a contest, feelings get animated and they need to be resolved and coordinated in the end. And I think that will happen," he said. Related: Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Tim Kaine and HUD Secretary Julian Castro are being vetted for Clinton's VP pick, reports the AP: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c3798e60c1263bfd96310fb50ea6448684e0bb886e98c37bd82 WHERE'S THE MONEY HONEY? House Speaker Paul Ryan has no current plans to raise money for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, scoop our soon-to-be Playbook authors Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer. Ryan, a prolific fundraiser, is instead focused on maintaining GOP majorities in the House and Senate. "Any other request - raising money for Trump or helping him turn out the vote - will be considered on a case-by-case basis, an aide in Ryan's political operation said." Susan Collins' gun control compromise-a vote on which could come as early as Thursday-the reality is that even if Democrats control the Senate next year, sweeping gun safety changes are unlikely. Burgess and Seung Min: "Even if Donald Trump produces a wave election for Democrats, there almost certainly won't be enough votes to clear the Senate's 60-vote threshold to pass universal background checks or other measures. Even then, Republicans are strongly favored to keep the House, where any Senate-passed proposal would face even longer odds." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c370588a0c84bbf4ba19a942850c5087aecc81fde5ca368c770 Graham's plea to the NRA: As Collins and her crew try to round up support for their proposal, the NRA was quick to shoot down the idea, effectively ensuring a flood of GOP lawmakers oppose the plan. But Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of the Republicans backing the Collins' proposal, made a direct plea to the gun lobbying group Tuesday: "To my friends at the NRA, I understand your concern about denying somebody the right to buy a gun, that's a constitutional right," Graham said. "But every right, whether it's speech or buying a weapon or any other constitutional right, has boundaries on it." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c37cb189bb0ee736f0c935a3632df818fdbce88d8d28f1c27b6 WE'RE HAPPY YOU'RE HERE FOR WEDNESDAY, June 22. Good morning and thanks for reading POLITICO's Huddle, your play-by-play guide to all things Capitol Hill where we're all still wringing out from the #GreatRayburnFlood yesterday. And in news you can't use, check out this story about an Alabama teenage girl getting stuck in a giant Barney mascot head for 45 minutes. We call on the powerful advocates who have known both the debilitation of hatred and the tragedy of gun violence to join us. ** TICK TOCK - Will Marco Rubio run for reelection or won't he? No surprise here, but he was evasive about it when reporters hounded him in the Capitol Tuesday. But, the clock's ticking and he only has until Friday to make a decision, so expect news soon. The latest Florida poll shows Rubio is the only Republican that can beat Democrats in the state's Senate race. Chaka Fattah isn't showing any signs of resigning after his conviction on federal corruption charges, at least not according to the initial statement he released Tuesday. "While today's outcome isn't what we had hoped, I respect our nation's judicial system," he said, making no mention of leaving office. Democrats in a pickle: But Fattah's reluctance to willingly vacate his office is putting top House Democrats in quite the conundrum as they wrestle with whether to demand his resignation or push for his expulsion from Congress. Some Republicans are already publicly calling for Fattah to be booted out of office but for some Democrats, it isn't as easy. "I'm sure he is going through a lot of emotions right now. We ought to give him time to figure out what his best next steps should be for his future and family," said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a former fraternity brother and fellow Congressional Black Caucus member. The Arizona Republican has made his opposition to Obamacare - which dominated Senate races across the country six years ago - a central point of his campaign, by all accounts, the toughest reelection fight of his career." Jennifer Haberkorn and Theodoric Meyer: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c37562cf95b6dcc03c4821f87f6bfb924995e944bed01f74726 GOP BLOCKS HARRIET TUBMAN VOTE- Leaders of the House Rules Committee Tuesday night decided against allowing a vote on Rep. Steve King's proposal to block the Treasury Department from putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. Hmm, wonder why? King, defending his idea, said it was "'racist' and 'sexist' to say a woman or person of color should be added to currency," reports Matthew Nussbaum. Can't miss quote: "'It's not about Harriet Tubman, it's about keeping the picture on the $20,' King said Tuesday evening, pulling a $20 bill from his pocket and pointing at President Andrew Jackson. 'Y'know? Why would you want to change that? I am a conservative, I like to keep what we have.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c379493ba93f012d1c8d88775d314c11d83a291cf81757a33ab ALL'S QUIET ON THE SENATE FRONT - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, not known for being particularly verbose, is refusing to answer questions about Donald Trump for the second week in a row, this time declining a question about Trump's paltry fundraising numbers. And that brings me to what's likely the best lede of the week, courtesy of our wry Senate reporter Burgess: "Mitch McConnell is so enthusiastic about Donald Trump's nomination that he can barely speak." ZIKA NEGOIATIONS ONGOING-That's what House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers told reporters at votes Tuesday evening. He declined to reveal any specifics about how far the House (which wanted a $622 million deal through this fiscal year) is from the Senate (which wanted a $1.1 billion deal through the next fiscal year). Their goal is still to get a deal before the House takes off next week for the July 4 recess. WEDNESDAY ROUND UP-Tuesday was a busy day for news on Capitol Hill: House Democrats made another (failed) effort to push for gun control votes http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c37999a8bfc42bcf5cdb80b4ec51b0097986d083d02fb1af789 Democrats accuse GOP of "selling guns to ISIS": http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c37515e76ab3c95e64d756d66c594c05f403c8c886267086afa and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer is hoping for a short-term funding patch in December: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c37e6da5fe792eb5f13e3e461feaf57f2b7298ac78ec5dca5d4 HITTING THE TRAIL- Rep. Dan Kildee's communications director, Mitchell Rivard, is taking a leave of absence to work on the Hillary Clinton campaign in Michigan. Rivard is heading to Detroit and will take over as Clinton's Michigan communications director July 1. TUESDAY'S TRIVIA WINNER - Kirtan Mehta was the first to tell me that the 1816 Indiana constitutional convention was held in Corydon. TODAY'S TRIVIA - Kirtan brings us today's question, in honor of the Cavaliers' victory: The past seven Democratic presidential wins were in years that an Eastern Conference team won the NBA Finals, but an Eastern Conference win does not guarantee a Democratic president. Since 1960, there have been three times where an Eastern Conference team wins, but the Republican won the election. Name the most recent year, championship team and Republican presidential winner. The first person to correctly answer will get a mention in tomorrow's Huddle. We call on the powerful advocates who have known both the debilitation of hatred and the tragedy of gun violence - be it public violence or private, a mass shooting or a stray bullet, murder or suicide - to join with us in condemning the hatred and gun violence that threatens not only our families, but who we are as a country. We know that hatred directed toward a person for one reason today will be hatred directed toward someone else for a different reason tomorrow. So today, we come together to say ENOUGH, and to pledge to stand together. Read our open letter to Americans calling for action against hatred and gun violence. ** To view online: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c3788510732108b0152f2038b5c592c7f5044f76ccbd00bbe98 To change your alert settings, please go to http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=f916e67c72b91c371b11c8ce88a1b75b1d34f4ddfb6fb63e020fc97040d124f1 or http://click.politicoemail.com/profile_center.aspx?qs=c1c81b2ef644fde1dd3c1f6178ef6a8ea3ee660992025bd40c4c53a7787c5caf4dd3868dc7139fc6271d9fc1d287bc557b206fc914af6fd0This email was sent to Hbiden@rosemontseneca.com by: POLITICO, LLC 1000 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA, 22209, USA To unsubscribe,http://www.politico.com/_unsubscribe?e=00000155-77eb-de0e-ab7f-7feb9eb40000&u=0000014e-f0fe-dd93-ad7f-f8fffbc40000&s=4169f6e2fb5c4ae075d93c3c07b1df8d43211b99ad2206acb24985439b1195d6e0c7d8fd1b6cb28577363dd76de87a604a5ffd378978da380b3344fc04483038
