Today marks the 53rd anniversary of the Equal Pay Act -- legislation aimed at abolishing the gender wage gap.

Like so many women, I have personally experienced pay discrimination.

While I was working as a computer programmer in the early 1980's, I found out that my male colleagues -- many of whom were under my supervision -- were paid higher salaries and bonuses than me.

Why? My boss said, "Well, they have families to support, and you don't."

I was doing the same work -- and sometimes more -- but I earned less because of my gender.

And Robert, this is still happening today. In Nevada, women earn an average of just 85 cents on the dollar compared to men.
