Dear Colleagues, Parents, and Students:It is with great enthusiasm that I announce the appointment of Dr. Min Kim as the next Upper School Academic Dean, effective immediately. Min’s unquestionable professionalism and work ethic, her kindness and unfailing commitment to students, her deep understanding of the Upper School curriculum and academic policies, and her collaborative work with parents, faculty, and staff will serve the School well for many years ahead.Dr. Kim has been a treasured English teacher since her arrival at Sidwell Friends in 2004. She also served for four years on the Administrative Council as All-School Diversity Coordinator and for the last six years as Assistant Academic Dean and Director of Summer Studies.Min received a BA in English and American Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz; her MA and PhD in English were awarded by the University of Maryland, College Park. She is the mother of two Sidwell Friends students, Erik Pederson ’18 and Annika Pederson ’20.I am also happy to report that Jon Mormino has graciously agreed to continue to serve the School as Assistant Academic Dean. Jon has been at Sidwell Friends since 2001 as a teacher of mathematics and has served as department chair. He is currently the Upper School Faculty Clerk.I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dan Entwisle for his excellent leadership as clerk of the search committee, and all members who volunteered to serve (Joellen Becker, Melanie Fields, David Merlin-Jones, Auysha Muhayya, Michelle Schneck, and Darren Speece).Please join me in congratulating Min and Jon.Warmest regards,Mamadou
