Your dad's been in the cabin so not sure how he's feeling (seemed good), but much of the coverage (with few exceptions) has been the message he wanted to deliver: our 2016 candidate needs to run on our successes. Without naming the most likely Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, he said he has a message for all Democratic candidates. "Run, yes, run — on what we have done," Biden said in Iowa on Thursday. "Only what we have done. Stand for what we have done. Acknowledge what we have done. And be judged on what we have done, if we have any chance for resurgence — continued resurgence — in 2016." *BIDEN: *5 things Republicans got wrong <http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2015/02/12/things-gop-got-wrong-biden-says/23310883/> He added: "Some say that would amount to a third term of the president. I call it sticking with what works." Officially, Biden, 72, was in Iowa for part of the day for two government-business-related stops to talk about the Obama administration's policies and proposals. Unofficially, he's keeping his name in the market as a possible candidate himself for the 2016 race for the White House. DES MOINES REGISTER Joe Biden <http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/candidates/2015/01/12/joe-biden-iowa-caucus-candidate-profile/20169575/?from=global&sessionKey=&autologin=> During a speech to about 800 people at an invitation-only event at Drake University in Des Moines, Biden spoke for more than an hour and a half about the Obama administration's accomplishments, and chided Democrats for not trumpeting them. "It wasn't that long ago that even members of my party were saying our economic path hadn't worked," Biden said. "They were looking to distance themselves from what we have done and the policies we have put in place. I think that would be a terrible mistake." Iowa has been a bit of Democratic desert lately, with a scarcity of high-profile Democrats showing up on the presidential audition stage here. Meanwhile, there has been a tornado of GOP activity by Republicans testing the waters for the White House. Clinton, the most likely Democratic presidential nominee in 2016, last visited Iowa just before the November elections, when she campaigned for an Iowa candidate for U.S. Senate. But she has postponed launching an official campaign, and therefore hasn't been on the stump in first-in-the-nation Iowa. Vice President Joe Biden, during a speech at Drake University on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, tells Democrats looking to run for office in 2016 not to distance themselves from the Obama administration's policies. Kelsey Kremer/The Register Biden worked to fill that Democratic void today. He held up pieces of criticism he said Republicans made against Obama administration policies, then argued why each Republican turned out to be wrong. "Are we going to return to policies that I would argue have failed our country in the past?" he said. Biden said that since he and Obama were sworn in, they've dealt with escalating health care costs, made the tax code more equitable, infused billions into infrastructure and schools and stabilized the banks. He said "unemployment is down since we took office," and that they've cut the deficit by two-thirds. He said the stock market has nearly tripled, and the housing market is back up. He said North America is now the epicenter of energy wealth in the world, with more gas and oil rigs pumping than in all the rest of the world combined. Natural gas is cheaper here than in Europe and Asia, he said. "That's why companies are coming home," he told the audience, which was predominantly Drake students. "We're no longer, as I said, talking about outsourcing. Your generation is going to be hearing about in-sourcing. ... They're coming home — GE, Siemens, Ford Master Lock. I could go on and on. Major, major new investments in the United States." *MORE COVERAGE: *Kathie Obradovich's take <http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/columnists/kathie-obradovich/caucus/2015/02/12/biden-democrats-run-record/23310459/> | Biden's shoutouts to locals <http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2015/02/12/biden-butt-buddy-iowa-branstad-cownie-culver-neal-smith/23306029/> | Harkin Institute sponsors visit <http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2015/02/12/biden-drake-harkin-institute/23292975/> The audience of 730 plus an overflow room of 100 included notables such as former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver; state Rep. Todd Prichard, D-Charles City; former congressional candidate Jim Mowrer of Boone; Dan Power, a former president of the Iowa AARP and Drake emeritus law professor who was director of constituencies for Biden's 2008 campaign; State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald; Polk County Treasurer Mary Maloney; Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie; Democratic operatives Brenda Kole and John Hedgecoth; Marsha Ternus, a former Iowa Supreme Court who is now the director of Harkin Institute for Public Policy; Andy McGuire, chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party; Jim and Helen Hubbell, philanthropists with a hefty business legacy in the Des Moines area; Danny Homan, president of AFSCME Iowa Council 61; and Tim Tracy, the Carroll County party co-chairman who ran for state party chairman last month.
